Yep. We broke the game. Or rather, the game broke on us. I don’t think this was the first time that the game was unplayable for a week or two, and I would be hesitant to bet my imaginary pension funds that it will not happen again. Hopefully I’m wrong about the last one though. I happen to have great imaginary pension rates.

So what happened was basically that a third party addon that we use for multiplayer games was updated without our knowledge causing the map generation phase in the beginning of multiplayer games to crash. The problem with the map generation/transfer was more or less that the size of the data packets being sent from the host to the clients was too large. This may sound like something that was easy to fix, but I assure that it was not. In fact, this was a real b*tch to handle.

After two weeks of banging our heads against the wall the game is now in a playable state again. That’s certainly a big relief!

Apart from fixing the map generation we’ve also had the time to take care of some really annoying bugs. Most importantly might just be the fact that towers did not always shoot at hostile targets. This was a real pain in the neck when another player took advantage of your dysfunctional towers, and raided your town supplies right in front of you because of it. Also, citizens will no longer eat the city’s hemo supply.

Full patch notes are below, and remember to change your avatar on your website profile, if you want it to be displayed in the game!

MAP

  • Fixed the issue with map transfers causing multiplayer games to crash!
  • Fixed the map generation progress bar.
  • Map restoration//Brought back: Flowers, Alien Hives, Birds & Chests.
  • Decreased the number of items generated on the map at the start. Grenades & molotovs will have a higher chance of being placed on the map than before.

BUILDINGS

  • Fixed a bug causing towers to stop shooting at hostile targets, despite having ammunition.
  • Logistic buildings (Port & Warehouse) will now correctly pick up items that other buildings throw out.
  • Solved an issue causing the market to not use carts when it should.
  • Market will no longer pick up hemp & hides.
  • More accurate sync between host and clients regarding production buildings. This should prevent buildings from “idling” for client players despite actually producing items.

OTHER

  • Carts should now more accurately display what’s being carried around.
  • Decreased range and speed of the grenade. Also increased the “reload time”.
  • Fruit trees can now be caught on fire and will burn at the same rate as other crops.
